Our SIXTH installment of Read’n’Hump’n’Show’n’Tell is coming!

Please come grab a beer and join us as we read and discuss a brand new piece by a local Chicago playwright (who you just may remember from Deliver Us From Nowhere).

At Black Rock Pub and Kitchen’s back room

on Wednesday, April 10th

at 7:30pm

We will proudly present:

ALONE AT LAST by Ted Brengle

Featuring:

Catherine Bullard as Ellen

Christopher Waldron as Ben

The perfect day.”

Ellen deserves it. Ben knows this. He loves her. She is pregnant with his child, after all. What else could that be but love? He knows what she has given up to be with him.

And on this beautiful spring day, as they move into the small bucolic house where they will raise their family, Ben is determined to give her something perfect to hang on to and remember. Nothing will get in the way of that.

Not the boxes they unload, each containing a stark reminder of everything Ellen is giving up for a life and child she isn’t even sure she wants.

Not the strange, insistent phone calls that stubbornly intrude via a land line that hasn’t been turned on yet.

Not the half-heard whispers of fights that cannot end.

No, this will be the perfect day. The day of sunlight and love. The day they have been waiting for. The one they were always meant to have. A moment of happiness. A moment of grace.  Alone together.

Alone at last.

Want to know a little more about our playwright and actors? Read on…

Ted Brengle has Master’s degrees in both English and Theatre from Miami University of Ohio. Alone At Last is the final part of a three-play cycle that includes Alone Together, which has been produced regionally and in New York City, and Alone Apart, which premiered at the 2011 Chicago Fringe Festival. His last work with Tympanic Theatre was Daughters of Necessity which he wrote for their “Deliver Us From Nowhere” production in 2012. He has won a couple of awards here and there, including First Prize in the One Million Monkeys playwriting competition and has been a semi-finalist for the National Playwrights Conference. Also, his play Of Apocalypse and Cappuccino was adapted into an independent short film in 2006, so he (bafflingly) somehow has an IMDB entry. Despite a ten line walk-on part in a particularly desperate college production of Two Gentlemen of Verona, he is not even remotely an actor and thus doesn’t have a headshot. He apologizes and hopes you will understand. He lives in Chicago.

Catherine Bullard is pleased to work again with her good friend Ted after acting in the prequel to Alone at Last (Alone Apart) in the 2011 Chicago Fringe. Other Chicago credits include Beautiful Broken (Julie), currently running at The Greenhouse Theatre, with Broken Nose Theatre, Reasons to be Pretty(Carly u/s) at Profiles Theatre and Common Hatred with The Ruckus. Catherine has also done play development work with Chicago Dramatists, Stage Left Theatre, and The Ruckus, with which she is an ensemble member.

Christopher Waldron is happy to be working with Ted Bringle and Tympanic Theatre again.   He is currently busy with On Camera classes at the Acting Studio Chicago and his improv team Old Face.  You can check them out every other Tuesday at the Tonic Room.

Next Reading: “A Play” by Natalie DiCristofano

We are excited to announce the fifth installment of Read’n’Hump’n’Show’n’Tell!

Please join us for:

A Play by Natalie DiCristofano
January 9th, 7:30 PM
Black Rock Pub and Kitchen, Back Room
3614 North Damen Avenue  Chicago, IL 60618

Six citizens, mostly alike in dignity

(In fair Chicago where we play our scenes)

From ancient thoughts break to new societies

Where renegade art makes black jeans unclean

From forth the lonely loins of a trio

A pair of star-crossed lovers lament their life,

Whose accidental piteous encounters

Doth with their lack of love make strife…

It ain’t bloody Shakespeare, but you might have a good time.

And remember-A Play is just a play.

Featuring: Jamie Bragg, Susan Myburgh, David Wesley Mitchell, Brittany Ellis, Dan Caffrey, Ashley Rose and Keith Neagle

Curious about our playwright? Here’s a little bit about Natalie:

Natalie DiCristofano (Playwright) has been in Chicago proper for a solid five years now. During that time she has mostly appeared as an actress with such companies as Right Brain Project, side project, New Suit Theatre, Chicago Fusion Theatre (where she is a proud ensemble member) and she will be appearing in Wayward Productions’ Richard III which opens in March 2013.

She drew her inspiration for “A Play” from the works of men like Neil LaBute who made her think “oh…well I can do better than that“. She hopes you will laugh at least once and have to hide your tears as well.

A little about who will be seen at this reading:

Meet Sam Zelitch, writer of the piece and actor for this reading.

Sam is a playwright and actor who performs his own work. Currently, he’s trying to get the media to start calling him “the white Tyler Perry.” For more information, please visit kingludd.net.

His synopsis of the script:

All men are created equal — except for one. The most outspoken and dangerous political voice of our time takes to the stage for a one-judge show that will change the way you think about the things you think about. Agree to disagree? You better.

Some cartoons Sam created based on “The Dissenting Opinions of Justice Antonin Scalia”:

Also meet Michael Carnow, Sam’s director and our facilitator for the evening:

Michael Carnow is the current Literary Manager of Profiles Theatre.  He is an award-nominated new play director who, in Chicago, has worked with Profiles, ATC, American Blues, Tympanic, Fleetwood-Jourdain and WNEP Theatre companies.  In Detroit, he ran the Breathe Art Theatre Project for its final 2 years.  For Tympanic, he directed The Drive by Mary Laws in Deliver Us From Nowhere.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Born to Fundraiser

Tympanic would like to invite you to come out to Black Rock Pub on Monday, April 2, to support our upcoming production, Deliver Us From Nowhere: Tales from Nebraska.  We’ve paired eleven playwrights with ten directors to create a night of theatre inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s legendary album, Nebraska.  Each song on the record serves as a springboard for a ten-minute play that explores the track in different ways.

And what better way to prepare for such an evening than by hearing the entire album played live!

At ‘Born to Fundraiser,’ you’ll be treated to musical guests Jon Patrick Penick and Gwen Tulin as they perform Nebraska in its entirety.  If that’s not enough, we’ll also have McKenzie Gerber rounding out the evening with some of the Boss’s other hits.  And if that’s not enough (how can that not be enough!?), you’ll also enjoy drink specials, Boss trivia, and a raffle with the chance to win cool prizes like a gift certificate to Old Town School of Folk Music or Springsteen’s newest album, Wrecking Ball, on vinyl!

Details are below, so come out and have a great time with us while helping to fund one of biggest and most rockin’ productions yet!
